 FELDSPAR: derives its name from the German words: "feld", meaning "field", and "spar", meaning "easily cleaved material". It refers to any of the several groups of crystalline minerals that consist of aluminum silicates with either potassium, sodium, calcium, or barium. Feldspar is an essential component of nearly all crystalline rocks and constitutes a total of 60% of the earth's crust.
