The Fancy Shawl Dancer Story and Coloring Book
Written By: Gerald B. Mirra
Illustrated By: Cindy Mayer-Strosser
Indian dance is an ancient art. It has been very important in preserving Indian culture and traditions. It is also very important as a social event to bring families and friends together.
Some Indian dances are for women only. The Jingle dance and the Fancy Shawl dance are contemporary dances. The Fancy Shawl dance is usually performed by the younger dancers, or the young at heart. It is physically demanding. The dancers must be agile. It is often referred to as "Indian Ballet!"
This story follows a young Seneca girl named Sonja as she learns about her traditions and follows her dream to become a Fancy Shawl Dancer.
