Ella Deloria (1889–1971), a Yankton Dakota, grew up on the Standing Rock Reservation. She was one of the first Native students of linguistics and ethnography in the United States and was mentored by Franz Boas at Columbia University.  Dakota Texts is a collection of Teton Dakota mythology and folklore stories in their original language with English translations.
