 RED JADE: is form of Jadeite with a Moh's hardness of 6. Red Jade is due to the oxidation process of ferrous oxide which is usually found on the crust's surface. On the jewelry market, the color is often enhanced by heat treatment or dyes. However, much of the product labeled "Red Jade" by the jewelry industry today is actually a dyed or color enhanced variety of translucent Quartz called Chalcedony.
