QUARTZ: derives its name from the German word "Quarz". It is the second most common mineral in the Earth’s continental crust. Quartz goes by an array of different names. The most important distinction between types of Quartz is that of macrocrystalline (individual crystals visible to the unaided eye) and the microcrystalline or cryptocrystalline varieties (aggregates of crystals visible only under high magnification), often referred to as "Chalcedony."
Crystal Quartz is the most common of all Quartz varieties. In its natural form, it is more often referred to as "Rock Quartz." This colorless, transparent gemstone has a simple beauty. While Rock Quartz is naturally occurring, this gemstone can also be duplicated and is occasionally manmade or "lab-grown", which is chemically and visually identical to the mineral found in nature. Much like a Cubic Zirconia is to a Diamond. Quartz is often color enhanced through heat treatments and dyes to produce a vivid color palette suitable for today's contemporary jewelry designs.
