 SNOWFLAKE OBSIDIAN: is a type of naturally occurring glass that results when volcanic lava flow cools rapidly before crystallization forms. Because of its lack of crystallization, it's considered a type of natural glass rather than a true mineral. Pure Obsidian is usually black in appearance, though the color varies depending on the presence of impurities. Snowflake Obsidian occurs when the inclusion of small, white clustered crystals called "cristobalite" in the black volcanic glass produce a blotchy or "snowflake" pattern.

Native Americans considered Snowflake Obsidian a guardian to the Great Spirit and their culture. This gemstone was believed to be a powerful psychic talisman and often carried by Shamans. Snowflake Obsidian is thought to be especially protective for women and believed to help with the inner reflection needed to bring real change in difficult areas of our lives. Also said to shield the wearer from negativity and grief, purifying the soul.
