NATURAL AGATE: is the general term used to describe an Agate in its natural form that is brown to reddish brown, tan, grey, white or any combination of these colors. Natural Agate is one of the many varieties of Chalcedony Quartz. Although the names for Chalcedony and Agate are somewhat interchangeable, "Agate" is usually used to describe the banded varieties of Chalcedony. Agate can be many different colors, and because its banding is so variable, different types of it have been given many different descriptive names. This gemstone is specifically generated in eruptive rocks or in primeval lava zones and are found in the form of rounded nodules or geodes.
The Native Americans of the western American states referred to these agate nodules as "thunder eggs". Agate is the oldest stone in recorded history and has been used in jewelry since Biblical Babylonian times. They were used to ward off storms and were prized gems in antiquity. The Agates with banded colors were placed at the head of a sleeper to give rich and varied dreams.
While all Agates are considered protection stones, it is believed that Natural Agate in particular fosters love, creates an appreciation of nature, provides abundance, and soothes emotions.
