STRENGTH, WISDOM, SOLITUDE & HEALING

Bear governs his domain and is respected for his shear size and strength. By nature he is a patient and humble loner, preferring to avoid trouble when at all possible. But Bear will not hesitate to guard his boundaries with ferocity if he is challenged. While appearing slow and lumbering, often totally disinterested in what’s going on around him, never underestimate how quick Bear is on his feet should you assume he isn’t paying attention. Bear’s wisdom and knowledge of his surroundings, along with his versatility and ability to adapt to his ever-changing environment, makes him a good instructor and leader. Indigenous tribes often associated Bear with healing because it is he who digs the earth for medicinal roots. Those who are like the Bear have a tendency to slow down in the winter months and retreat to the comfort of their homes for hibernation and introspection. With the spring comes rejuvenation and an eagerness to venture outside to explore their world and surroundings again.

ADAPTABILITY, PATIENCE, cONSERVATIVE, CLARITY OF VISION

Crocodile has walked the earth for millions of years. His ancestors have survived and adapted to their ever-changing environments to become the most ancient of elders who carry with them the wisdom and secrets of our Earth Mother. They never take more from the environment than is necessary for their survival. Waste and gluttony is not part Crocodile's medicine, and through his wisdom he teaches us to be careful about greed and over-consumption. Crocodile's eyes rest well above his head, affording him heightened awareness and clarity of vision. He rests beneath the water, still and patient, until necessary to react ... reminding us to be mindful of the hidden emotions that often lay just under the surface of our cool and calm exteriors. Crocodile digests things slowly, and his totem reminds us that we should do the same when it comes to processing information and carefully assessing our situations before reacting in haste. Crocodile teaches us patience and appropriate timing. He knows when to hide, when to observe, and when to take action and snap.
