Purity, Virtue, Courage & Strength

UNICORN is one of the most mysterious of all animals. It has been glorified in folk tales, songs, poems, and stories for centuries. It’s known as Kilin In China, Kirin in Japan, and Karkadann in Arabian mythology. Stories of the magical, one-horned animal can also be found in African folklore as well as in Greek historical texts and German Mythology.

Legend tells of the Unicorn horn bestowing curative powers to anyone who possesses it, although believed to be almost impossible to capture unless lured by the purity and chastity of a beautiful virgin.

The mythical Unicorn is most noted for it's virtue, courage and strength. Some Biblical texts refer to the Unicorn as being the first animal named by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. During the middle ages, the Unicorn was symbolic of Christ's reincarnation, believed to represent Christ and the maiden, his mother. They were also thought to symbolize purity, elegance and charm. Up until the 17th century Unicorns were believed to be real animals. There were even some Unicorn horns in existence, such as the one owned by Queen Elizabeth I of England, which has since been identified as being the horn of a narwhale.

The Unicorn is a proud, noble, powerful, and fiercely courageous creature who is also gentle, beneficent to his fellow creatures, and happily serene in the end. The unicorn can be seen in art throughout time and has come to symbolize many things, both Christian and secular. This powerful, mystical beast is depicted in many ways, but it always retains its single horn, and the love that both Medieval and Modern people hold for the magical creature.
